The Myth of doing business with the federal, state, and local governments.
Doing business with the government is more trouble than it's worth. The process is unbelievably complicated, with stacks of unnecessary paperwork. No one understands all the acronyms and government-ese. Profit margins are slim or non-existent. And it takes forever to get paid. Besides, business is good without the headaches of dealing with the government.
Why would you want to do business with the federal, state, and local governments?
Don't believe all the horror stories! It's not that difficult. Procurement streamlining initiatives, credit cards, and ever-increasing use of the internet are making government contracting easier all the time. Virtually every solicitation is now available on the internet; many with supporting documentation. Government delivery orders may also be issued on the internet, as well as invoice submissions which can reduce payment times to days instead of months. Depending on your product or service, profit margins can be very healthy. And while business is good today, the government continues to buy despite economic slowdowns.
